Head-on crash on icy road results in fatality

It has been reported that a Washington woman was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 169 outside of Renton. The accident happened on Jan. 6, and the woman succumbed to her injuries on the following day.

The 21-year-old woman was driving north on the highway near its intersection with Jones Road in a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. A 1998 Ford pickup truck was traveling south on the highway. The truck reportedly hit some ice, and its driver lost control. Law enforcement authorities indicated that the truck then veered into the woman’s path and struck her vehicle head-on.

Emergency personnel had to extricate the woman from her vehicle. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment of severe injuries, where she died on Jan. 7.

The pickup truck’s driver was also reportedly injured and suffered minor injuries in the accident. Law enforcement investigators stated that neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor in the accident. They did not provide information regarding the speed at which either vehicle was traveling at the time of the accident.

Fatal motor vehicle accidents are devastating for the family members who are left behind. The survivors of the decedent are often left reeling from both the shock of the unexpected loss of their loved one as well as with substantial financial expenses and other losses.
