What is Washington’s DUI-E law?
On Behalf Of Dean Standish Perkins & Associates
Nov 11, 2018

Most people have heard of distracted driving, but many drivers are not familiar with the recently enacted DUI-E law in Washington. If you live in Issaquah or elsewhere in the state, it is pivotal to be aware of this law and avoid any distractions that could lead to a crash. Furthermore, you should swiftly review your legal options and take action if you are ever struck by a driver who is in violation of the state’s DUI-E law.

According to a write-up that was recently published by AAA Washington, 69 percent of drivers throughout Washington continue to use phones while they are behind the wheel. However, 90 percent of Washington drivers reported that they knew about this DUI-E law, which highlights how problematic the use of electronics while driving really is. The law, which went into place last year, prohibits drivers from using electronic devices such as smartphones while they are on the road.

Research has also shown that an alarming number of parents use electronic devices while driving. Sadly, this can increase the likelihood of more children copying their parents’ behavior once they start to drive.

Distracted driving remains one of the main causes of fatal motor vehicle accidents in Washington and there are many ways in which drivers become distracted by their phones. Furthermore, some may be addicted to their devices, making it very difficult for them to take a break.

However, there is no excuse for endangering innocent lives by operating a vehicle while trying to use an electronic device at the same time.

Washington’s DUI-E law highlights the serious dangers of distracted driving and the responsibility every driver has to stay focused behind the wheel. Even with increased awareness, many drivers continue to put others at risk by using electronic devices while driving. If you or a loved one has been injured by a distracted driver, you may have legal options.
